The Texas H2 Coalition is Texas based with a regional focus on our major cities and the State's economy. The Coalition and its membership are focused on advancing the infrastructure that is needed for large-scale hydrogen production, storage and distribution which will reduce environmental pollution and fossil fuel dependency. The Coalition is a 501(c)(6) organization.

The Challenge
Tremendous resources, both public and private, have been invested in hydrogen's use as a transportation fuel. Hydrogen production and distribution infrastructure must be in place to support the emergence of vehicle and engine technologies as they mature and move toward commercial applications.

The Coalition wants to ensure that the critical elements for hydrogen are in place in Texas - long term production, storage, distribution and use.

Why Texas?
  • Texas has all of the necessary natural resources to assume a national leadership position in the production and distribution of hydrogen and the development of a hydrogen-based economy. Coal, gas, oil, nuclear, biomass, municipal solid waste, hydro, wind, and solar are all part of the Texas mix.
  • Further, with the world-scale industrial petrochemical activities on the Texas Gulf Coast, there is an extensive hydrogen pipeline network with more miles of hydrogen piping than any other state.
  • Unlike other regions that are considering hydrogen infrastructure options, Texas already has a unique advantage of being able to build upon a major existing commercial and knowledge base gained with this infrastructure.
  • Texas has other major features providing a Texas hydrogen advantage: large, rapidly growing metropolitan areas, vast driving distances, and an auto-centric infrastructure. These attributes make Texas an ideal location for hydrogen based vehicles, new fuel cell prototypes, and test fleets.
  • Texas has also created state funded incentives that can be utilized for hydrogen development, demonstration, and deployment. These include the Texas Emission Reduction Plan, the New Technology Research and Development program, and the State's economic development funds.

Vision
The Texas H2 Coalition sees hydrogen as a clean energy fuel for the Texas market and economy. Texas has proven experience and resources in energy production, storage and distribution that make this vision particularly achievable in Texas.

Mission
The Coalition's mission is to promote the role of hydrogen in the Texas energy value chain through accelerating the development of hydrogen production and distribution technologies, and through fostering their utilization in mobile, industrial, commercial, and consumer applications.
